We hope that you all had a wonderful start to the New year! We are looking forward to an amazing and successful year. With so many new opportunities that have been brought to the Sickle Cell community, including the new treatment options, new Sickle Cell laws, more fundraising, and educational opportunities this year is off to a great start.


 


Sickle cell support group!



The Sickle Cell warriors had its first support group meeting of the year on January 18, 2024. The group had a chance to discuss their thoughts on changes need for the SC community for 2024. Thank you to everyone who participated. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on February 15th, 2024.

If you plan to participate in the activity for this meeting, please join in-person or come prepared with your vision board supplies. Thank you!

Community engagements

February 2nd, 2024- SCWB will collaborate with Dr. Steve Ambrusko to do a radio interview with WBFO news and radio station. The interview will focus on the new treatments for SCD


February 27th, 2024- SCWB will team up with Highmark health and Redcross to do a Panel Discussion and blood drive to help bring education to the community, as well as help offset the recent blood donation shortage.




 

Community Partner events


In honor of Black history Month, the

Red cross of WNY will host a Community Engagement Presentation Day on the American Red Cross Sickle Cell Initiative. This is a great event for those involved with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work. I do hope you or someone from your organization can attend. Red Cross will also host blood drives

throughout the month of February and March.

What's up next!


• SCWB is planning to march in this year's Annual Juneteenth event held in place as a celebration of freedom. We will march in honor of shining the light on Sickle Cell disease. Register today to March with us!

                   

The youth and young adult Transitions program will take place February 13, 2024.

• SCWB volunteers will begin visiting

Buffalo state college campus for the semester to

engage students in conversations about Sickle Cell.


• SCWB is collaborating on a Sickle Cell

Sneaker Ball to take place September
